Straight bolt - fitted to a door where the frame and door are flush.

Cranked bolt - fitted to a door where the frame and door are not flush.  Supplied with a flat plate which is fitted to the frame instead of a staple.  A whole has to be cut out of the frame to house the end of the bolt.
